During my visit to West London, I stayed at The Lost Poet, a beautiful, intimate boutique hotel conveniently located at the southern end of Portobello Road, less than a five-minute walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station. I couldn’t have chosen a better location to explore this vibrant neighbourhood.
Many hotels aspire to provide guests with a home-away-from-home experience but not many achieve this as successfully as The Lost Poet, a converted Georgian townhouse. The hotel has just four rooms, each with its own unique character, while its name reflects the artistic and romantic nature of Notting Hill.
On entering the hallway, I went down a narrow staircase to my basement suite where I immediately felt as if I’d landed in my very own private flat in trendy Notting Hill. Reception is staffed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., but online check-in provides a code for keyless access, which adds to the homely touch.

The basement suite is decorated in restful earthy hues with a combination of antique and retro furniture and dark wood flooring. It opens onto a small patio that provides natural light. On the opposite side of the room, a cosy nook panelled with reclaimed wood provides the perfect spot for planning what to see and do.
Breakfast is delivered to the rooms, with the option of ‘naughty or nice’ – Ottolenghi pastries, or overnight oats with cinnamon plum compote and orange juice. In-room amenities include espresso machines with compostable coffee pods, a mini-bar stocked with complimentary drinks and water in refillable glass bottles.
I can guarantee that anyone who stays here will definitely want to come back. Next time, I’m booking ‘The Muse’, a two-level hotel suite on the top floor of The Lost Poet with a private roof terrace and sunroom that offers magnificent views of West London all year round.
