Located in the heart of the Jing’an District, The Sukhothai is a contemporary hotel ideally positioned near Shanghai’s premier shopping and business hubs. I stayed in one of the executive suites, a masterpiece of modern luxury. It featured a spacious bedroom with a work desk and walk-in wardrobe, alongside a separate dining and living area complete with a cosy lounge sofa. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered sweeping views of Shanghai, complemented by natural furnishings that created a warm atmosphere. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the sleek, well-appointed bathroom, was designed for ultimate comfort.
The buffet breakfast is served in the Urban Café, a serene oasis with a garden-like ambience. The spread included everything from freshly baked pastries and artisanal cheeses to traditional Chinese delicacies, providing a fuelling start to a busy day.
Leisure facilities include a 25-metre pool, state-of-the-art fitness studio, sauna and steam room, while the spa offers a variety of Southeast Asian-inspired body and facial treatments, ranging from quick facials to full wellness journeys.
I never expected to experience authentic Italian cuisine during my visit to Shanghai, but La Scala at The Sukhothai proved to be a delightful surprise. Inspired by Milan’s iconic Teatro alla Scala and the elegance of Italian Renaissance gardens, the restaurant brings a refined taste of Italy to China’s busiest city. Artfully composed dishes are paired with an impressive selection of premium wines, including boutique Italian labels, champagnes and dessert wines.
What truly sets The Sukhothai Shanghai apart is its attentive staff, whose keen eye for detail and genuine hospitality ensure every guest feels welcome and valued.
