Nestled in the centre of bustling Shanghai is the sumptuous PuLi Hotel & Spa. The name ‘PuLi’ translates to ‘uncut jade’, a symbol of beauty, nobility, sincerity and power in Chinese culture. Inspired by these qualities, this resort crafts an experience that embodies elegance, authenticity and refined hospitality.
Centrally located in the Jing’an District, this hotel is just steps from the city’s top business, shopping and entertainment destinations. Thanks to excellent transport links, Shanghai’s key attractions are easily accessible.
Stepping into the PuLi Hotel & Spa for the first time, I was awestruck by the magnificent 32-metre Long Bar, which doubles as the lobby. Glossy floors reflect the soft glow of floor-to-ceiling light panels. The bar, which is the focal point of the hotel, by day is a relaxing space for afternoon tea or a glass of wine. As evening falls, the ambience transforms, inviting guests to unwind with sophisticated handcrafted cocktails in a cosy and intimate setting after a long day.
A standout of my stay was dinner at the Michelin-starred PHÉNIX, where the chef masterfully incorporates Chinese produce into classic French cuisine. The elegant yet understated décor enhances the menu of expertly crafted dishes, perfectly paired with an exceptional wine selection.
Not to be missed is a swim in the green-tiled indoor infinity pool on the third floor looking out over Jing’an Park. Wellness facilities also include a spa offering tailor-made treatments using bespoke, organic formulations from industry leaders Valmont and Swissline, ranging from express therapies to full-day rejuvenation rituals.
I must highlight the remarkable service – the staff’s warmth, attentiveness and meticulous attention to detail ensured a truly memorable stay.
