For travellers looking for something a little different in Rome, the citizenM on Isola Tiberina offers a fresh and convenient hotel option. Set on the edge of this historic island in the Tiber River, this modern hotel provides easy access to many of the city’s major sights while offering a quieter, almost hidden retreat. I loved stepping out in the morning from citizenM into the narrow streets, lined with quaint houses and cosy cafés.
The island is connected to Trastevere on the right bank of the Tiber River by the Ponte Cestio bridge – my favourite night spot in Rome, known for its bohemian atmosphere, lively restaurants, wine bars, boutiques and craft shops. On the other side of the island, the Ponte Fabricio leads to the ancient Jewish Ghetto.
The hotel itself is stylish and tech-friendly, with a focus on smart, contemporary design. My room was compact but cleverly laid out, featuring a comfortable bed, blackout blinds and customisable mood lighting, all controlled via an iPad. Sleek, minimalist décor with clean lines and functional furniture is complemented by large windows offering views of the river or city.

The bright lobby feels welcoming, with spaces to work, relax or grab a drink. The rooftop terrace is a standout, offering sweeping views over Rome – ideal for an evening aperitivo. The buffet breakfast is excellent, with a wide selection of hot and cold dishes and great coffee.
Service is efficient, with self-check-in kiosks and friendly staff available if needed. Overall, citizenM Rome is a wonderful choice for visitors seeking a comfortable, well-located hotel with all the mod cons – just what you want when exploring a bustling city while enjoying a peaceful place to unwind at the end of the day.
