Dublin artist John Nolan’s lifelong celebration of colour and form began in childhood, encouraged to paint by his artist father. Guided by the mantra, ‘Paint what you feel, not what you see,’ he moves between styles to keep his work fresh and transmit a positive, upbeat feeling. This intuitive approach allows John Nolan to respond freely to emotion and environment, resulting in paintings that are energetic, expressive and instantly engaging. His acclaimed work, valued worldwide, includes representing Ireland at the Florence Biennale and exhibiting at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. A newly commissioned piece, Blurred Perceptions, was unveiled in 2026 at Dublin City University. True to the artist’s philosophy, Blurred Perceptions is a vivid exploration of colour, where bold yellows, reds and bright blues transform the mood of viewers and passers-by alike. The artwork was generously donated by DCU alumni James Corcoran and Ciarán Clancy to commemorate the 35th anniversary of their graduation from the Bachelor of Business Studies Class of 1990, creating a lasting connection between art, memory and place.
